How to Plant Dogwood Trees

To get the most out of your new Dogwood Trees, here are some planting tips. First, remember that Dogwood Trees prefer full sun to part shade (anywhere from 4 to 6 hours of sunlight daily is ideal).

When you're ready to plant, dig your hole two times bigger and deeper than the root ball. Soak your new Dogwood Tree's root ball in a bucket of water for 4 to 5 minutes. Then, place your Dogwood Tree in its hole, backfill the soil, and water the surrounding area. Finally, mulch the soil (keeping the mulch away from the trunk) to lock in moisture.

Watering Your Dogwood Tree

Regular watering will ensure the roots develop quickly and healthily. We recommend watering once weekly if you don't get at least an inch of rainfall every week. If you're not sure when to water, simply check your tree's surrounding soil about 3 inches down for dryness.

Fertilizing Your Dogwood Tree

You'll want to fertilize your Dogwood Tree monthly and apply slow-release fertilizer a couple weeks after planting.

With the addition of fertilizer, you’ll be amazed at how quickly your Dogwood Tree will adapt to your yard.
