King of Hearts Dicentra
Attracts Hummingbirds and Butterflies
Dicentra "King of Hearts" is for you if....
● you want a romantic plant
● you're looking for something easy to grow
● you like hummingbirds and butterflies
Dicentra "King of Hearts" adds a touch of romance to flower beds and planters with its bright pink heart-shaped flowers. These delicate blooms dangle above clumps of lacy, triangular, soft gray-green leaves for an eye-catching plant that grows to around 12 inches tall. Plant these in a large group in garden beds for eye-popping color or in a planter in the outdoors dining area for a romantic decor.
Doesn't Like to Be Dry
Dicentra "King of Hearts" isn't a fussy plant -- it'll tolerate and thrive in most soil conditions and levels of alkalinity. However King of Hearts prefers soil that's moist and well-drained; if the flowers are wilting, especially if they're growing in containers, check that the soil hasn't dried out. Don't worry if the flower growth appears to slow down in hot weather - that's normal for this plant. It'll perk up again in cooler temperatures.
With just a little attention, Dicentra "King of Hearts" will keep blooming from late spring to mid-summer. Removing the fading or dead flowers promotes new growth. Be careful, though, around the bees, hummingbirds and butterflies that the King of Hearts attracts.
