- Cold hardy dwarf
- Fabulous spring blooms
- Adapts to different climates and conditions
- Tolerates sun
- Drought resistant
At first sight, the ruffled pale creamy yellow flower clusters of Mary Fleming Rhododendron will take your breath away. The petals form ruffled blooms that are kissed with salmon pink along the outer edges. Just one look and you too will be studying the yard to find just the spot to plant one too.
Mary Fleming Rhododendron is a small leaved variety.
Unlike most plants in the Rhododendron family, this one is definitely a dwarf. In 10 years it will reach 2-feet high and wide. It is perfect for a small space because it will never be larger than 3’ high and 5’ wide. Mary Fleming is a hybrid Rhododendron that has been registered with the American Rhododendron Society since 1959. It is easy to see how this charming little spring bloomer has won several awards. It was named Rhododendron of the Year most recently in 2005.
Hardy in the cold, frigid northern winters to 15 below zero.
The bloom buds of Mary Fleming Rhododendron have proven to resist late spring freezes in temperatures as low as -15F. Stated to be tolerant of sun, under the intensity of the southern sun it may be advisable to provide afternoon shade. In the north, Mary Fleming Rhododendron may fare well until mid afternoon without sun protection.
This low, spreading evergreen shrub has a full lovely shape the rest of the year.
Rhododendrons prefer good drainage and low moisture once established. If you have heavy clay in your yard, you would do well to plant your Mary Fleming Rhododendron in a raised bed to allow for adequate water departure.
Rhododendrons are very low maintenance landscape plants.
They are resistant to pests and have a low disease problem when grown in the right conditions. In nature, these evergreen shrubs grow from the crevices in rocks. This will tell you how much moisture or moisture retention they prefer. You will not need to do a lot of pruning or shaping when growing Rhododendrons.
Our Mary Fleming Rhododendrons will all be well rooted and vigorous.
This is one of the most important keys to your success in growing beautiful plants. At Brighter Blooms, we understand that a well-developed root system guarantees our customers great results at home. We want you to be able to plant it and enjoy it, not need to coddle a weak plant in hopes that it will survive. Mary Fleming Rhododendron will not last long, be sure to reserve yours before our availability is completely gone for the year.
