Fresh Fall Foliage Color And Bonus Blooms Too
This Purple Hardy Aster is a hardy perennial with gorgeous dark purple foliage and daisy like flowers.
Purple Aster is mound forming and shrub like with leggy, horizontal branches and tiny, lance shaped leaves which begin as purplish green in spring, then turn a deeper, darker plum color in autumn. This foliage is really the standout feature of the Purple Hardy Aster, along with all an Aster has to offer.
In late summer to early fall, it bears small white star-like flowers, about a ½ inch long, with delicious raspberry red florets.
Purple Hardy Aster is the perfect addition to the perennial fall border when other color displays are fading.
Try planting in the rock garden, stream side, or in wildflower and woodland gardens to add depth and colorful texture.
This is a fast grower with great adaptability. The Purple Hardy Aster is also drought tolerant and easy to maintain.
