The Windmill Palm is the most cold tolerant of the tall palms. Our design consultant says these are the absolute prettiest cold climate palm trees.
Lovely fern-like fronds create a symmetrical canopy.
The head of the Windmill Palm Tree will mature at 8-10 feet wide that is held high above the ground. The tree will mature to 20-30 ft. in height over time.
In your landscape, Windmill Palm Trees make a wonderful accent.
For any homeowner in the North who dreams of a tropical pool setting, this tree is the answer. You can achieve good height for poolside plantings without creating too much shade. Nor will you have the mess of fallen leaves and twigs constantly cluttering the water.
Windmill Palm Trees are rapidly gaining popularity in US home landscapes.
You will want to plant your palm tree in a spot that it will receive part shade. This palm tree is not prone to pest and disease problems, giving you a very hassle free plant to grow. The Windmill Palm Tree is long lived and offers unique landscape design possibilities for homeowners across the country.
When purchasing a Windmill Palm Tree you’ll want a specimen with excellent roots.
It takes strong roots to ensure your success in growing palm trees in your yard. The Windmills offered at Brighter Blooms Nursery will have wonderful root systems. We hold our plants in the nursery longer to make growing easier for our customers. Here at Brighter Blooms Nursery, we grow our palm trees in containers, this ensures you receive the largest, healthiest roots possible. This year’s crop of Windmills is excellent looking. You’ll want to reserve your palm before they are all gone.
I live in Pitman, New Jersey, about 18 miles southeast of Phila. I planted a 3 1/2 foot Windmill Palm Tree last May (2009). This winter it survived 3 record snowfalls of over 2 feet each, a few smaller snowstorms, and many weeks of sub-freezing temps. I did cover it before each big storm. Lowest temp was 9 degrees farenht. It's finally starting to warm up (March 2010) and there's only a little bit of burn on the lower fronds. This palm is obviously super hardy. I'm definitely planting more this year.

I bought two windmill palm trees for my sister's birthday, here in Ohio. I lived in California 22 years and miss the palm trees. They arrived in good condition and seem to be doing well in her back yard near their home-made, large pond. The neighbors are anxious to see how they do through the winter. If they survive there will be palms all over Lima, Ohio.

We have just endured the longest, coldest January on record, temps for 14 consecutive days never climbed above freezing! The palms are all still going strong,, no spear pull, discoloration or any sign of stress.
Eric out of Philly
Have had a windmill palm for 7 years (20 miles west of Phila) and it has grown to about 4 feet from an 18 inch start. Lose some fronds every April, but new ones replace in July and August.
Juba in Kansas
I'm quite surprised, all of a sudden everybody has palm tree and I thought: What? In KANSAS? Its terribly cold here in the winter, sometimes down to -10 degrees and over near 110 in the summer! But they thrive...

I live in Johnson City, Tn. I planted a yard full of these palm trees with various sizes and it gets cold here and they are doing great! I will be buying more or these. I have a lot around my pool and bar area and they look great.
