Product Description

A Banana Plant for Any Size Landscape

The Veranda Banana works perfectly in small or large landscapes! Some banana plants are towering giants that are more than 20 feet tall, and some are true dwarfs that grow only 3 feet or shorter. Veranda Banana grows from 6 to 8 feet tall, which also means you can grow it indoors as a tropical houseplant!

Small Plant with Full-Sized Fruit
Veranda is not simply an "ornamental" banana plant (although you can certainly grow it for its ornamental value). It's in the Cavendish group of banana plants that bear fruit '– full-sized, edible bananas! You can grow it year-round as a perennial in USDA Plant Hardiness zones 9 through 11, but if you live outside this area, you can simply grow it outside in a container and move it indoors when temperatures dip in autumn.
Note: Plants grown year-round as houseplants won't bear fruit; they need the heat of summer to help form the flowers and fruits.

A Tropical Look Even in Temperate Climates
You'll be amazed at the fast growth rate of Veranda Banana plants. Whether they're grown in a pot or in the ground, you'll love how quickly the plant takes shape to add a lush, tropical look to your yard, patio, or poolside. Plant a row of Veranda Banana plants as a living fence to define a garden area. And for a grand entrance statement to your home or office, plant two Veranda Banana plants '– one in each of two large urns placed on both sides of the walkway near your front door.

Care and Overwintering Tips
• A full-sun location is optimal for growth and health.

• Veranda Banana plants have good tolerance to drought, but they respond to moist soil that drains freely.

• To produce fruit, you'll want to fertilize your plants based on soil-test recommendations, which your local Cooperative Extension Service can provide.

• If you grow your Veranda Banana plant in a container, choose a pot that's at least 20 inches in diameter, and fill it with a packaged potting mix that's specially formulated for container plants. Don't use garden soil, because it will become too compacted in a container.

• If you move your Veranda Banana plant indoors for the winter, a sunroom or solarium is an ideal spot for it. Optionally, the next best place for it is in front of a sunny window. Because it is not only frost-sensitive but also cold-sensitive, move your plant indoors when temperatures dip below 50 degrees F.
