A Bigger Bing Cherry
It's hard to improve a tried-and-true cherry like Bing, but we're pleased to bring you an improved next generation '– Bada Bing! These new bing-like cherries are not just large; they're extra-large, even described by some growers as jumbo. As if hinting at the prolific harvest to follow in summer, Bada Bing Cherry Trees are covered in a flurry of white blossoms in springtime.
A Trio of Superior Qualities
You may find a cherry tree that has one of the following traits, but you'll be hard-pressed to find another cherry that gives you all three:
1. Sweet taste. Taste is not sacrificed by the larger size of Bada Bing Cherries. They've been taste-tasted and rated some of the sweetest among sweet cherries. Deep-red skins cover the purplish-red flesh for melt-in-your-mouth sweetness!
2. Self-fertile. If you're a backyard gardener with a small yard, you'll do cartwheels when you find out that Bada Bing Cherry Trees are self-fertile. This means you only need one tree to produce fruit, unlike conventional Bing Cherry Trees that require another type of cherry tree for cross-pollination.
3. Crack-resistant. If you've ever tried to grow cherries, but all you got were fruits with deep cracks all over them, Bada Bing Cherries solve that problem! Other cherries are prone to cracking before they're ready to pick because of their genetics (breeding) or environment (too much water). Cracking is such a problem with other cherries that plant scientists had invented a waxy spray to keep cherry skins intact, but you can skip the time and money it takes to do this simply by growing improved Bada Bing Cherries.
Be on the Lookout
Bada Bing Cherries are as tasty to many birds as they will be to you. Even backyard bird watchers may want to use netting to keep their feathered friends from eating the sweet fruit. An even better strategy is to plant more than one Bada Bing Cherry Tree, and keep one of them netting-free just to feed the birds '– be sure to keep your binoculars handy!
