Garden Gems™ Amethyst Redbud Tree Cercis canadensis ‘NC2017-6’

Product Description

Rich Burgundy and Pink Colors

This tree adds year round color and beauty to every space it occupies. The Garden Gems™ Amethyst Redbud produces vivid pink blooms and deep burgundy foliage to provide an all season focal point for your landscape.

The bright pink clusters of flowers cover the branches as it welcomes spring’s warmer weather. The vibrant flowers are so abundant, the tree’s compact branches create a flowering bush effect that is sure to brighten your space.

The burgundy foliage also adds charm, with its heart-shaped leaves that are attractively stacked on the branches. Unlike other colorful foliage varieties, the Garden Gems™ Amethyst Redbud’s burgundy foliage keeps its deep purple color even through the heat of summer.

The compact growth habit of the Garden Gems™ Amethyst Redbud makes this native North American tree strong and durable. Not only does the sturdy branch unions of the tree add to the flower clusters by bringing them closer together, but it makes the tree strong and better able stand up better to wind and storms.

Plus, this tree is low-maintenance in more ways than one. It requires minimal pruning or pest control, since it's compact in habit and resistant to most pests - just prune as needed to shape in late winter. And with minimal water and soil preferences, this tree can thrive nearly anywhere.

Add vivid pink blossoms and rich burgundy foliage to your landscape. Get your Garden Gems™ Amethyst Redbud Tree today!

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Select an area with well-drained soil and full sun to partial sun (4 to 6 hours of direct sunlight with some afternoon shade).

Dig a hole twice as wide as the diameter and as deep as your tree’s root ball. Place your tree, backfill the soil, and water to settle the tree’s roots. Finally, spread 3 to 4 inches of mulch over the planting site to conserve moisture.

2. Watering: During the first year, water your tree about once or twice weekly. If you’re not sure when to water, check the surrounding soil to about 3 inches down. If the soil is dry here, it’s time to water your tree.

After the first year, your Redbud can thrive on rainfall alone, but we recommend that you continue to check the soil. Soil should remain moist about 3 inches down.

3. Fertilizing: In early spring, apply compost or a complete fertilizer, such as 5-10-5. Spread evenly around the root zone of the plant according to the label instructions.

4. Pruning: Prune the tree in early summer after the tree is done blooming. Remove any larger lower branches and branches that cross over each other or rub together.
