Product Description

Japanese Quince Adds Style and Sophistication

The Toyo-Nishiki Flowering Quince adds bonsai-style refinement to your landscaping. Also known as the Japanese Quince, this plant blooms early in spring with an abundance of red, white, and pink flowers. Some flowers even proliferate with a stunning mixture of all three colors!

Quince plants are a quintessential Japanese plant with simple elegance. Apple blossom-esque flowers grow on leafless stems before transforming into small, yellow-green fruit in fall. Quince fruits are too bitter to eat raw, but make tasty jellies and jams.

Gardeners choose the Toyo-Nishiki Flowering Quince for its versatility. Reaching an average height and width of about eight feet, the Japanese Quince can stand alone or be planted in a line to create a hedge or border. The density of the plant offers appealing privacy. You can also cut stems to add to elegant indoor arrangements

Though the Japanese Quince looks sophisticated, it's actually extremely easy to grow. Adaptable to almost any soil, this plant is also drought tolerant once established, and deer and rabbits tend to avoid it, meaning you can sit back and enjoy its effortless growth!

A stunning variety that's as graceful as it is hassle-free? Yes, please! Order your Toyo-Nishiki Flowering Quince today.

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Choose a well-draining soil that is on the dry side in which to plant your quince. Ideally, the plant likes a loamy soil, but it is not picky.

Find a sun that receives six hours of sun per day to ensure better flower production, though the quince still grows well in partial shade. Ideally, your planting spot should receive at least five hours of sun per day.

2. Watering: Water your Japanese Quince weekly, unless your area enters a dry spell, when it may need added moisture more often. The plant is drought-tolerant after it is established.

3. Pruning: Flowers grow on the previous year’s branches, so wait until after flowering is over to prune.
