So sweet and juicy, Ruby Red Grapefruit gives oranges a challenge for first place. Growing grapefruits at home can be fun and rewarding. Wait until you taste that first chemical-free fruit plucked ripe from your own citrus tree. Succulent red flesh is seedless beneath the red blushed, thin yellow peel. The grapefruits are large and will be borne in abundance.
Nutritious grapefruit grown at home will be extra delicious.
Discovered in Texas in the 1930’s, Ruby Red Grapefruit is the #1 choice in America. Grapefruit trees will adapt to a wide variety of soils and growing regions. They are also quite drought tolerant. Your new citrus tree will only require a slow, deep watering every week of two, except in really sandy soil. When fertilizing, take care to maintain the right nitrogen level. Good nutrition calls for aluminum sulfate, use 1-cup for every year of the tree’s age divided into 3 applications in February, May and September.
Enjoy the delightful scent of citrus blossoms around your home.
Plant your Ruby Red Grapefruit tree when the floral fragrance will be most enjoyable. In colder climates, be sure to choose a large enough container. Too small of a tree will not be able to hold the weight of these huge citrus fruits. Large growing containers need not be too hard to move, put them on wheels.
At Brighter Blooms we have strict guidelines about plant health and selection.
