Kobold Liatris
Fluffy Feathery Flower Spikes Open Top Down Also known as Blazing Star or Gayfeather, this Liatris is a perennial known for its long lasting spikes of button like flower heads, bearing dense clusters of tubular, deep purple florets...spikes resemble fluffy feather dusters....tufts of narrow, lance shaped leaves grow from the base of the stiff stem.
This species is unusual in that it opens from the top of the flower spike downward in late summer to early autumn.
Liatris is a choice cut flower adding texture and interest to arrangements both fresh and dried.
Kobold can grow to a height of 2 ½ feet but does not generally require staking...suitable for the mixed or herbaceous border.
Try pairing up with Dianthus in the foreground for an attractive combination....tough Liatris can withstand heat, drought, cold, and poor soil, so you have a lot of flexibility when it comes to planting.
Just keep in mind the brilliant color in store and plan accordingly!
