Stunning dark red foliage and versatility merge, from ornamentals to shrubbery, making the Rose Glow Barberry (also known as the Rosy Glow Barberry) a landscape favorite.

It's easy to see why gardeners, landscapers and every garden enthusiast in-between loves the Rose Glow: You get amazing color without the hassle, especially since it's drought tolerant and doesn't have pest issues. Basically, you get the whole package with the Rosy Glow, but it's important to keep a few care tips in mind.

Scouting the Area

First, scouting the idea area for your Rose Glow Barberry is a must. Select a locale with full to partial sun and well-drained soil. Full to partial sun means any area in your garden that receives about 4 to 8 hours of sunlight each day.

Aside from that, purchasing your Rosy Glow and planting after its arrival are easy. It grows well in zones 4 to 8, so it thrives in both colder (even down to -20 degrees) and warmer areas.

Once you've picked the perfect spot, you can plan to plant your Rosy Glows in groups of three or more for hedging along property borders and driveways, or plant them as focal points in your plant beds.

The entire process couldn't be simpler - the Rose adapts to any soil, too, so no need to amend or till. Just dig a hole that's about two times the width of your plant's root ball and just as deep.

Then, place your Barberry in the hole, back fill any soil you removed and then water the area to settle your plant's roots.

Ongoing Care

So, the Rosy Glow is hassle-free but proper ongoing care is vital. The first essential step? A regular watering schedule. Generally, we recommend watering your Rosy about once a week. The surrounding soil should be moist but not oversaturated or waterlogged.

However, if you're not sure when to water your Rosy Glow, it's easy to check. Use your finger to dig down into the surrounding soil, down to about 2 or 3 inches deep. If the soil is dry here, it's time to water your Barberry Shrub.

But since no serious pest or disease issues affect the Glow, and no pruning or shearing is required, you can let it go and grow naturally. You can shape it to your desired silhouette, but other than that, any dead or damaged areas should simply be removed.

Fertilizing

A yearly feeding does bolster the grow of your Rosy Glow, encouraging denser, richer foliage and a strong upright habit. We recommend feeding your Rose Glow in spring, once the threat of late frosts has passed. Wait until you see a bit of new growth before applying a well-balanced blend - something like a ratio of 14-14-14 for maximized results. Avoid using the full recommended strength, and follow the label instructions for application.

More Planting Tips

All in all, the Rose Glow needs virtually no maintenance, aside from a little water and food for amazing results. However, we do have a couple of pointers to leave you with the best-looking Barberry possible:

  • Since it's a medium-statured variety, planting your Rosy Glow Barberry under a window sill or as driveway hedging means it won't overgrow.
  • For more immediate color and faster results, plant our 3-gallon Rose Glow - it's a larger, more developed size (ideal for impatient gardeners!).
