How to Plant Sunny Knock Out® Roses
Let’s face it: There are few other plants that consistently deliver more vibrant color and overall garden satisfaction than roses. The Sunny Knock Out® Rose is an outstanding choice for a trouble free rose garden, flowering hedge, or as a foundation plant in a perennial bed.
This new low-maintenance hybrid rose has tremendous vigor and is highly resistant to powdery mildew, blackspot and rust. Summer seems to go on forever with the Sunny Knock Out® Roses. It begins blooming in early summer and continues blooming profusely throughout the growing season into late fall.
This variety is the only fragrant member in the Knock Out® Rose family. It has a slightly more compact and upright growth habit with bright yellow flowers that fades quickly to a pastel cream color. The yellow color stays more intense during cooler times of the year. The dark, semi glossy foliage contrasts nicely with the vivid blooms.
The Sunny Knock Out® Rose grows approximately 3 to 5 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide and is a great choice for the busy gardener because it is self cleaning. This stunning yellow rose is cold hardy, easy to grow and able to adapt to a variety of conditions. It requires at least 4 hours of sun per day and grows best in well draining soil that is slightly acidic. It thrives in very humid climates where other roses have disease problems and require spray maintenance.
How to Plant the Sunny Knock Out® Rose: Select a sunny, well-drained location. Dig a planting hole at least 2 times wider than the root ball. Make the planting hole large enough to accommodate roots without crowding or bending. Remove the rose from its container and trim off any broken branches. Gently place the plant in the hole. Fill in the hole with soil and pack it down gently. Water with a slow steady stream to ensure deep penetration of moisture into the soil.
You may want to tamp down the soil one more time after watering to see if it has settled in well. It is recommended to keep your roses roots moist and cool but the leaves as dry as possible; this can be accomplished by applying 2-4 inches of mulch around the bottom of the bush. Feed regularly during the growing season with a general purpose fertilizer. Prune annually in late winter to promote vigorous new growth.
