    A Superior Avocado for Containers

If you love guacamole, but your climate isn’t in the perennial range where avocado trees typically grow, we have the answer – you can grow your own avocadoes in a patio pot! The Day Avocado (Persea americana ‘Day’) is an easy-to-grow container tree that rewards you with buttery, healthy avocadoes. And even if you’re a novice gardener, you can successfully grow your own Day Avocado tree – whether you grow it in a pot or in the landscape!

One of the Best Heart-Healthy Fruits
Day Avocadoes are just what the doctor ordered. If you’re health-conscious, you’ll love the taste and nutritional benefits.

Flavorful fruit. Day Avocados don’t skimp on taste. The fruits, which are botanically classified as berries, have a creamy texture with loads of delicious buttery flavor. As the primary ingredient in guacamole, avocados are also good for baking, making smoothies, and spreading on toast.

Healthy fruit. Doctors from many university medical research centers recommend eating an avocado every day for good nutrition. Packed with fiber, “good fats,” and anti-oxidants, heart-healthy Day Avocados pack a powerhouse of a nutritional punch in every fruit!

Early fruit. Our trees are grafted, which means that they’ll begin producing fruit in only two to three years. (As a comparison, non-grafted trees can take up to 10 years to produce.)

A How-To Checklist for Healthy Growth
Although the Day Avocado is not a dwarf tree, its height will naturally be shorter in a patio pot. A container confines the root system to a smaller size, which also keeps the overall size of the tree much shorter than if planted in the ground. But you’ll be happy to know that the tree size doesn’t affect the size of the fruit. You’ll get full-sized fruit on a small-sized container tree! Whether you plant it in the ground or in a pot, make sure your Day Avocado tree gets lots of sunshine for maximum fruiting potential. You’ll want to keep the soil moist, but never soggy. All pots should have drainage holes, and landscape plants should be planted on a site with well-draining soil. Clay pots are better than plastic or glazed ceramic containers. Use a balanced fertilizer during the active growing season.

Flower/Fruiting Tip: Each Day Avocado tree produces flowers with male and female parts, so you won’t need another plant for cross-pollination. However, because avocado plants have a unique flower structure and pollination method, you’ll increase the size of your crop if you plant more than one tree.
