Cherry-Red Flowers That Bloom in Spring and Fall
The Fruit Punch®‘Maraschino’ Dianthus offers gardeners deep red double flowers that bloom twice—spring and fall—every year.
Called "Pinks" because of their fringed and fluffy appearance (resembling pinking shears), the 'Maraschino' Dianthus' blossoms both look and smell like cherries. Their delicate fragrance mixes well with the scents of cut grass and rain-soaked soil. And their stunningly red, serrated-edge petals add texture and dimension to any outdoor space.
The foliage on this Dianthus is just as noteworthy as its blooms. Distinctly silvery-blue, its spiky blades offer an enchanting contrast to the flowers above. Even after the blooms have closed at the end of the season, the plant's foliage will remain green throughout the winter months.
Fruit Punch®‘Maraschino’ Dianthus plants are most often incorporated into gardens with a cottage or eclectic feel. They’re also popular in rock gardens, as their rounded edges and rich color add depth and visual interest.
Beyond their beauty, Pinks offer versatility in planting and can be placed alone, en masse, or as petite bordering shrub. They also do quite well in containers. Regardless of how you feature your 'Maraschino' Dianthus, keep in mind that they enjoy full to partial sunlight and do better in loose, average moisture soil.

Planting & Care
1. Planting: Fruit Punch® ‘Maraschino’ Dianthus can be grown in full sun or partial shade. When planting, dig a hole 2 times as wide and exactly as deep as the root ball. Place your Dianthus into the hole and backfill the dirt.
2. Watering: The flowers are tolerant of heat and humidity. Be advised, however, that these plants will not be as lush and their blooms will not be as plentiful when grown in hot, dry conditions.
Water weekly, or check the surrounding soil. When the soil is dry about 3 inches down, it's time to water. If your Dianthus is container-planted, water until you see it flowing from the drainage holes at the bottom.
3. Pruning: In the fall, clean up your Dianthus by removing loose or fallen leaves and blooms from its base. Then, add a layer of mulch to protect its evergreen foliage. When the weather begins to warm the following season, remove mulch from the base of your Dianthus to prevent crown rot.
