A Spectacular Succulent Plant for Your Garden

Coral Reef Sedum is a tough little plant that is as colorful as it is low-maintenance. It’s a “succulent,” a class of plants with fleshy stems and leaves that are adapted for water storage. So when dry weather sets in, they are almost self-watering!

1. Transitioning foliage color. You’ll enjoy watching Coral Reef Sedum as it changes color throughout the season. Starting with green in summer, the leaves turn to bronze and burgundy later in the season. You may even see pinkish-white flowers, too!

2. Trailing stems. Spilling over the edges of containers, the stems of Coral Reef Sedum can trail up to 12 inches. But the height reaches a few inches tall for a tidy look that skirts the edges of pots and hanging baskets.

3. Drought-tolerant. You will only have to water this plant during times of extreme drought; in fact, too much water can cause the plants to rot.

Coral Reef Sedum performs superbly in pots, partly because containers offer the superior drainage that it needs. It’s also cold-hardy, surviving as an in-ground perennial in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 5 through 8. If you plant it in a pot, it should reliably survive the winter in its container in zones 7 and 8.

Care and Maintenance
Caring for your Coral Reef Sedum is a breeze, following these simple tips:

Sun. If you have a spot that receives full sun in the morning followed by a little shade in the afternoon, that’s an ideal location for Coral Reef Sedum.

Soil. Not too rich -- average soil that doesn’t retain water is perfect.

Water. Resist the urge to get heavy-handed with the garden hose; Coral Reef Sedum likes it a bit on the dry side.

Fertilizer. A light application of a slow-release fertilizer at the start of the growing season is all this plant needs.

Pruning. No pruning required for Coral Reef Sedum!

Winter care. If you live outside the perennial range, you can bring pots of Coral Reef Sedum indoors for the winter. Place in front of a sunny window, and only water it occasionally.
