A breath of spring- in winter! Just when it starts to seem like the warmth of spring is a very long way off, the Autumn Cherry has a surprise in store. Delicate off-season blooms will bring a welcome hint of springtime to your yard. Like most cherry trees, the Autumn Cherry puts on its most spectacular show of blossoms in the spring. This variety's delicate pink flowers are semi-double, with ten petals rather than the five that many cherry blossoms have, giving them an unusual frilly look. As the blossoms start to fall, the green summer foliage fills in, as well as small black berries. The Autumn Cherry's canopy spreads in a classic cherry shape as it matures. A full-grown specimen makes an elegant shade tree in the height of summer. The Autumn Cherry isn't done yet. The tree blooms occasionally throughout the summer and fall, and even through mild winters! Although the leaves turn golden and drop off in the fall, the Autumn Cherry can be the only tree in your garden that keeps bringing back gentle reminders of the warm spring days to come. The Autumn Cherry will be happiest planted where it can receive full sun, and well-drained soil is important to keep the tree healthy. It can tolerate a range of soil types, and it doesn't mind chilly winters. Invite this unusual beauty into your garden and be amazed come autumn. Our country experienced an extremely mild winter this year. Because of this, pesky insects did not have a chance to die like they normally do. So, you may see spots or holes or other minor issues, no need to worry! These are minor symptoms caused by the natural environment that will not affect the overall health of your plant. We have made incredible strides to stop issues before they occur in our nursery. But sometimes Mother Nature plays a big part with these issues.
