    Perfect Snacking-Size Sweet Apples

Because of its petite size, the Pixie Crunch Apple (Malus x domestica ‘Co-op 33’ PIXIE CRUNCH™) is called a “kid’s apple” by the University of Kentucky. But with your first bite, you’ll discover that it’s also irresistible to grownup kids! This delicious and versatile fruit is perfect for tucking into school lunch boxes or for enjoying as a healthy snack on your work break. Best of all … the Pixie Crunch Apple tree is so easy to grow that you don’t have to be a professional grower to harvest fruit in your own backyard!

    Fruit Features
One of Pixie Crunch Apple’s best qualities is the crispness of its fruit. It actually stays firm on the tree for several weeks without succumbing to fruit drop, which is can be a problem for apple trees. Crisp apples are best for baking, which makes Pixie Crunch Apple a delicious choice for making apple pie!

Taste. The rich taste of each Pixie Crunch Apple is sweet and spicy, and the fruits are exceptionally juicy. It’s a superb apple for eating right off the tree, and it’ll stay crisp and juicy up to two months in the refrigerator.

Color. Deep purplish-red fruits have yellowish flesh, and you may also see a hint of yellow on the peel around the stem.

Size. The round fruits are typically 2.5 inches in diameter with a thin peel, which makes them easy to eat. They’re ready to harvest from September through October.

    Good Genes Produce Great Results
Pixie Crunch Apple is the result of a collaborative research project by three universities: Purdue, Rutgers, and the University of Illinois (also known as the PRI program for the initial letters of the universities). Plant breeders at these institutions were specifically tasked with breeding a sweet-tasting apple that was resistant to a common fungal apple disease – apple scab. To date, this research program has evaluated 1,500 types of apples, and Pixie Crunch is in the top 3 percent that produces superior fruit!

    A Flurry of Flowers
Apple trees depend on a pollen partner planted nearby, which is another type of apple tree that enables cross-pollination of the flowers. You’ll also need to plant a second apple variety, which can be another fruiting tree or a crabapple tree, to produce fruit on your Pixie Crunch tree. Crabapples are prized for their brilliant floral displays in spring, so if you’d like to add two stunning flowering trees to your landscape, plant Pixie Crunch and one of our flowering crabapples for a winning combination!
