Small Tree Makes it Easy to Pick Nuts

The American Hazelnut is a small to medium sized tree that can grow up to 12 feet tall and 15 feet wide. Hazelnuts often are multi-stemmed, and have dense foliage, making them ideal for privacy hedges or property borders.

In the fall, the green foliage turns orange, red, and even a deep purple, providing a splash of splendor in your garden. Animal enthusiasts often plant Hazelnut shrubs to attract wildlife, including pheasants, squirrels, woodpeckers, and turkey.

The American Hazelnut tree is a fast grower, especially in well drained soils. The edible nuts drop from the tree and are ready to harvest in late September. Full sun exposure is necessary for the plant to yield the maximum nut harvest. Ideal in growing zones 4-9, this tree should be planted in pairs for pollination.
