Green Goblet Cherry Laurel Prunus laurocerasus ‘Jong3’
Product Description
Dense Evergreen, Winter-Hardy Shrub
Are you looking for an evergreen shrub to keep your landscape space filled with life all year round? The Green Goblet Cherry Laurel is a shimmering shrub that thrives in extreme cold conditions and keeps its foliage all season long.
The Green Goblet Cherry Laurel is the dwarf version of the beloved Skip Laurel, or Cherry Laurel. The Skip Laurel is known for its no-maintenance qualities and the Green Goblet provides the same benefits - just on a smaller scale.
The compact, bush-like habit of the Green Goblet Cherry Laurel makes it wider than it is tall. This growth habit makes the Green Goblet Cherry Laurel ideal for lower hedges or planting in the foreground of your landscape space. You can choose to plant individually or in mass plantings, for a low privacy screen.
The shiny, dark-green foliage offers more than just shades of green throughout the seasons. As new growth forms on the Green Goblet Cherry Laurel, you’ll find it emerging a bronze-red color. Not only does this add a range in color on the foliage, it blends nicely with the delicate berries.
The best part? Maintaining your Green Goblet Cherry Laurel is simple. Pruning is only required if you wish to maintain or control the shape of the plant. Plus, because this bush was cultivated in Hungary, it’s designed to survive the extreme cold.
Note: If your plant arrives with holes or damaged leaves, don’t be alarmed! Laurels do not like being in containers, so it is very common for this cosmetic damage to occur. Once plant your Laurel in the ground, new growth will emerge happy, healthy and hole-free. If you have any concerns, don’t hesitate to contact us!
Planting & Care
1. Planting: First, select a location with well-drained soil and full sun to partial shade – any area with about 4 to 6 hours of sunlight should suffice. When you’re ready to plant, dig a hole that’s about three times the width of your plant’s root ball, and place your plant.
2. Watering: Once established, your Cherry Laurel is relatively drought-tolerant, but it’s important to have a regular watering schedule for the first few growing seasons. Water about once weekly or check the surrounding soil about 2 or 3 inches down.
3. Pruning: You have numerous options for pruning Skip Laurel. First of all, you never have to prune it if you prefer the natural shape of the plants in your landscape. Or you can shape a hedge of these plants in early spring into any shape or size you want. It's a best practice not to prune plants during the heat of summer or during a season of drought because pruning can stress them at these times. The ideal time to prune Skip Laurel is in late spring to early summer. This way, the new growth will fill in rapidly.
