Powderblue Blueberry Bush Vaccinium ashei 'Powderblue'
Product Description
Fresh, Delicious Berries You Can Grow Anywhere!
Always dreamed of being able to pick fresh berries straight from your own garden, but not sure which ones will thrive in your climate? Look no further than the Powderblue Blueberry.
These Blueberries are heat and drought-tolerant and can produce an abundant crop even in moderate to hot temperatures. Because they flower in late spring to early summer, Powderblues are also less susceptible to freezes in the winter months than other blueberry varieties. Their high yield and adaptability make them a solid choice for any home landscape.
A Rabbiteye cultivar, the Powderblue Blueberry produces large, light blue berries with a subtle outer “dust” that resembles powder. The sweet and tart flavor profile of the Powderblue Blueberry is sure to wow your taste buds!
You’ll love having access to delicious, fresh blueberries right at home. And the best part? The Powderblue doesn’t need pruning and is pest-resistant, making it a no-fuss and low-maintenance option for berry lovers!
Once you've eaten homegrown Powderblue blueberries from your abundant harvest, supermarket trips will be a thing of the past. You’ll love eating these delectable berries as a refreshing snack, freezing them for use in smoothies, and making desserts or delicious jams and preserves with them.
Since the Powderblue is a Rabbiteye cultivar, it is not self-pollinating and needs another variety of Rabbiteye to grow.
Order your Powderblue Blueberry bush today, and enjoy an abundant harvest of fresh berries right from your own backyard! Don’t forget to purchase a Premier Blueberry Bush to complete the set!
Planting & Care
Planting: You can plant your Powderblue Blueberry in your garden or in a pot. Either way, you'll need to make sure it gets full sun and the soil is well-drained and acidic. If you plant it in your garden, be sure to leave 10 feet of space between it and your other plants.
From there, planting is easy. Simply dig a hole large enough to accommodate the Powderblue's root ball, place your plant inside, backfill the soil, and water the area.
Watering: Powderblue Blueberries are drought tolerant but need to be watered once a week during the first year. A good rule of thumb is to check the surrounding soil for dryness about 2 or 3 inches down. If the soil is dry there, it's time to water your Powderblue.
Fertilizing: Once you see leaves on your Powderblue bush, you can add some acidic fertilizer. And once your plant is fully mature, you can fertilize it once a year in June and again in the fall if the harvest is smaller than expected.
Pruning: You won't need to prune your Powderblue Blueberry unless you want to manage the size and shape of the hedge. If so, prune in late winter.
Pollination: This is not a self-fertile plant and will need another variety of Rabbiteye blueberry to thrive. We recommend the Premier Blueberry.
