Also known as Syringa vulgaris, the common Lilac plant offers beauty that is easy to appreciate.

It grows anywhere from 8-15 feet tall and 6-12 feet wide. Your lilac requires plenty of sun and good air circulation in order to get the most blooms possible.

While some care is needed for the lilac, the fragrant flowers more than make up for your effort. When May arrives, your lilac bush will produce flowers in 5-6 inch long panicles, with a pleasing scent.

Lilac bushes are great landscape additions, but they can also serve as excellent screening plants, providing you with both decoration and privacy in your home and garden. Just plant them in a row for a fragrant hedge!
