Product Description

Variegated Foliage Meets Easy Growth

Fast-growing foliage meets variegated color, setting the Japanese Gold Dust Aucuba apart. Rich green growth merges with pops of gleaming gold for month-to-month visual interest…from gilded tones to dark green and pops of yellow with red berries. Through it all, the Aucuba lives up to its name.

And there’s nothing like its semi-weeping form. Growing quickly and effortlessly for years to come, the Japanese Aucuba pulls double duty, delivering carefree growth and second-to-none beauty. Once established, it’s drought-tolerant, too...missed waterings or tough conditions in your landscape don't stand a chance with the Aucuba, also known as the Japanese Laurel.

But the best part? We’ve hand-selected this Aucuba Gold Dust and now, you reap the rewards. Our plant specialists and local experts have chosen this variety for its strong reputation, from planting to growing and shipping.

Most big-box retailers and garden centers ship bare-root, but your Gold Dust from Brighter Blooms arrives with healthy roots, ready to grow and enhance your garden year after year.

If you're looking for elegant color and rare variegation, look no further – get your own Japanese Aucuba Shrub today!

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Start by selecting a location with well-drained soil and full sun to partial shade – any area with about 4 to 6 hours of sun per day should suffice. When you’re ready to plant your Aucuba, dig a hole that’s about three times the width of your plant’s root ball, ensure the Aucuba is placed away from any major structures, and place the tree. Finally, backfill the soil around it and water your tree to settle its roots.

2. Watering: Once it’s established, your Aucuba Laurel is drought tolerant, but it’s important to have a regular watering schedule for the first few growing seasons. Water your Japanese Laurel about once weekly or check the surrounding soil…if the surrounding soil is dry about 2 or 3 inches down, it’s time to water.

3. Fertilizing: Because the Aucuba Laurel grows quickly and easily, fertilizer is generally not necessary.
