Versatile & Hardy Meet Stylish!
The Pindo Palm is a showy plant with long, uniquely colored blue-grey palms and a heavy grey trunk. Along with their cosmetic appeal, mature Pindos produce large clusters of orange edible fruits.
It is hardy tree that does well when planted freestanding or potted, given you the option to add a touch of the tropics to your yard or your patio. Our trees arrive well-maintained and with an established root system, which is ideal for landscaping.
Pindos work well in smaller spaces, as they require little growing area and are extremely drought tolerant. Any maintenance of this variety is minimal as they survive with infrequent watering '– great for the forgetful gardener, or those living in dryer areas.
Diseases are not a major concern for this palm and this slow grower can reach lengths of 20 feet. Pindo Palms are best suited to growing zones 8-11, however due to this variety's hardiness and mature arrival it is a welcome addition as a potted plant in most other regions as well.
Pindo Palms make lovely accents in small areas such as entryways and courtyards. They also serve well as shade in walkways or pool areas. Often called a Jelly Palm, the fruit of the Pindo Palm is edible and is used in jellies, jams, and as a snack eaten directly from the tree.
Planting and Care
Choosing a location: Pindo palms will thrive in a variety of conditions, in cooler climates they will like a full sun location, in warmer areas they will prefer some afternoon shade. Pindo Palms can tolerate almost any soil type and can be grown in small areas like parking lot islands and small spaces. They prefer well-draining soil and can tolerate dry conditions, but look better with adequate moisture.
Planting:
You don't have to immediately repot your plant - you'll only need to repot approximately every other year, once your Palm outgrows its shipped container or original pot. Increase the pot size by 2 inches each time you repot to accommodate new growth.
If growing outdoors make sure you give the palm well-draining soil and adequate space above to grow.
Watering: Palm trees are drought tolerant once established, but will require frequent watering while getting established. Allowing the soil to dry out will weaken the root system of the palm tree, only allow the soil to dry 1-2 inches down before watering again. The frequency will depend on the climate and how much rain you are receiving.
Pruning: Palm trees need very little pruning, only needing brown fronds or old fruit removed on occasion. This can be done any time of the year as needed.
Fertilizing: Young palm trees do not need fertilized until after they put out a new spear, about 2 months. After that they will perform best when fertilized with a slow release fertilizer such a 10-5-10 formula.

We had purchased two others
We had purchased two others which are thriving. While this newest Pindo Palm was not quite as full, it is nevertheless, a growing, healthy tree.

Loving Palm Trees in North Texas!
I was hesitant to order a Pindo Palm online but it arrived in perfect condition one day earlier than expected. We planted it the day it arrived and 2 weeks later it is beautiful and has several new fronds on it. Very pleased!!!
