One of the Top 10 Shade Trees
The American Sycamore is a vigorous, fast-growing shade tree that gives you incredible fall color.Don't be surprised by the fast growth of your American Sycamore. In fact, some say you can literally see it growing. If you want to create a stunning woodland area in your landscape, this is the tree for you.
This Sycamore is an excellent shade tree, and will provide your home with a windbreak or a much needed cooling effect in summer. It grows well in hot or cold climates.
This Sycamore is hearty and can grow in almost any type of soil, ranging from nutrient-deprived fields to marshy areas. It even tolerates flood conditions! There's no place an American Sycamore won't feel right at home.
Sycamore leaves are a pretty, bright green color through summer, and in autumn they turn a show-stopping gold that truly lights up a landscape. As the trunk sloughs off bark, it exposes an inner bark that is a mottled patchwork of browns, yellows and greens. This gives the tree gorgeous texture in winter even after the leaves have fallen.
The American Sycamore will usually begin flowering at age 6 or 7, and you'll see these blooms appear in early spring as the leaves start to pop out. They will be tiny and crowded together in ball-shaped clusters, starting out green and turning a deep red.
If you want a fast-growing shade tree, the American Sycamore is a great choice.

great tree
Tree arrived healthy and very nice looking.
Very resilient, fast growing tree
I received my American Sycamore four years ago, After the first year, it was still alive but not really doing much. Turns out it was loose in the ground - just a bad installation on my part. After I moved it, the tree grew very well, but was targeted by Japanese beetles two years later, which took most of the leaves. However, the tree still thrived. Now, four years in, it's about 18 feet and absolutely gorgeous. The dogs love laying in its shade. Definitely the most successful and resilient tree I've gotten shipped.
Healthy tree
Looks really healthy - the root system wasn't overgrown like it had been in the pot forever. The soil was nice and loose. So far, it seems to be thriving.
Região Serrana Eastern Brazil.
I have a Sycamore in front of my house (i just came to learn its name). It's beautiful dark green at summer but the leaves dry out without an intermediary color.
